According to the MetLife Institute's 2008 Survey of Adult Day Services and Home Care Costs the cost of adult day care in the Pittsburgh area ranges from $40 to $70 per day. The national average day care cost is $64 per day.

The cost of day care is basically reflective of the services provided. Programs that employ a nurse, care for those with Alzheimer's Disease or incontinence problems, and/or  maintain a high staff to client ratio generally charge more than programs that offer fewer services.

At CYA, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving seniors, the level of service is high, but the price is mid-range: $56 per day. CYA's adult day care program is housed in a converted school building. The level of service is high while the overhead costs are low.

In comparison with home care costs, adult day care is a bargain. According to MetLife's figures, 3 hours of home care is as expensive as a full day of daycare. Hourly rates for home health services are between $17 and $25 in the Pittsburgh area. Home care is an important services, but it does not provide all the social benefits that adult day care provides.
